Materials and
Design
The insert
and components shall be manufactured of materials resistant to corrosion
from atmospheres containing hydrogen sulfide and dilute sulfuric acid.
The Insert
The insert
body shall be manufactured of 304 Stainless Steel with a thickness of not
less than 18 gage. The insert shall have a
deep-dish bowl design to allow for easy removal of manhole cover. The
depth of the insert shall be such that the manhole lid will not come into
contact with the insert during removal and replacement of the lid, (i.e.,
lid rotation). The insert shall be designed to provide a sufficiently
loose fit into the manhole frame to allow easy removal.
The Gasket
The
gasket shall be made of closed cell neoprene and shall have a
pressure-sensitive adhesive on one side. The gasket shall have a minimum
thickness of 1/8 inch.
The Handle
The
insert shall have a handle made of 3/16"plastic coated 304 stainless
steel cable installed on the side of the bowl. The handle shall be
attached with two 304 stainless steel round head bolts with flat washers
and self-locking nuts. The handle is able to withstand a pull of 500
pounds of force before it fails or separates from the insert.
Installation

manhole frame rim shall be free of all dirt and debris prior to the
installation of the insert. This can be accomplished by scraping the rim
with a sharp chisel to remove the heavy debris and finish cleaning with a
wire brush.
The insert should
be fully seated around the manhole frame rim to insure against water
seepage between the insert and the manhole frame rim.
Maintenance
The insert gasket should be inspected on a least an
annual basis to insure that the gasket has not become worn or displaced.
Worn or missing gaskets must be replaced in insure the effectiveness of
the insert and protect the insert body from undue wear.
Manufacturer

manhole insert shall be as manufactured by Inflow Systems, Inc., Largo, Florida or approved equal.
